@article{2018:cuccia:the_gensch, title = {The Genscher-Colombo Plan: A forgotten page in the European Integration History}, year = {2018}, note = {In the early 1980s, against the backdrop of a protracted global economic downturn, Europe seemed to be at the crossroads between more integration and political inertia. In this context, the present essay analyses the "Genscher-Colombo Plan", i.e. the initiative launched by German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher and his Italian counterpart, Emilio Colombo, for the revival and the renewal of the integration process. Based on research in several German and Italian archives, as well as on documents of the Presidency of the French Republic and of the French ministry of Foreign affairs, the paper analyses both the obstacles and the points of contention with which the supporters of the initiative were confronted. Thus, it sheds new light on a relatively unexplored but potentially promising field of research. This article supports a balanced approach that neither overestimates the achievements of the initiative nor ignores its contribution to better-known developments in the European integration process.}, journal = {JEIH Journal of European Integration History}, pages = {59--78}, author = {CUCCIA, Deborah}, volume = {24}, number = {1} }
