The country is an essential part of European politics, economy and culture. But being an integral part of the European peace or⁠der, Russia has to comply with European standards and norms. It cannot pursue an im­pe⁠rialist policy like in the 19th and 20th century. As long as Russia follows such a policy, Eu⁠rope has to respond with realpolitik, without acting like a hegemonic power itself.
