For instance, the continuous use of chemical weapons during the Syrian civil war exposes the weakness of any arms control treaty once the necessary political support is not any longer adequate. This article sheds some light on the current status of both the Biological and Chemical Weapons Convention and discusses shortcomings as well as possible ways to enhance their effectiveness.
