The Conference on the Future of Europe
National and Regional Participation in an Innovative Reform Process
Abstract
The one-year ‘Conference on the Future of Europe’ came to an end in May 2022. CoFoE is an unprecedented experiment in democracy at EU level. At its heart is the engagement of citizens in deliberative consultations on the future of European integration. This volume includes eleven contributions which examine the process and the results of this innovative dialogue process in select EU member states; the contributions analyse the involvement of national and regional actors as well as EU institutions. Many of the authors from politics, administration and academia personally partook in the conference. With a preface by the President of the European Committee of the Regions. Die „Konferenz zur Zukunft Europas“ wurde nach einjähriger Laufzeit im Mai 2022 beendet. Es handelt sich um ein bislang einmaliges Demokratieexperiment auf EU-Ebene, um Bürger:innen in deliberative Beratungen über die Zukunft der europäischen Integration einzubinden. Dieser englischsprachige Sammelband umfasst elf Beiträge, die sich mit dem Prozess und den Ergebnissen dieses innovativen Konsultationsprozesses in verschiedenen EU-Ländern befassen und untersuchen, wie nationale und regionale Akteure ebenso wie EU-Institutionen sich daran beteiligt haben.
